[comix] FAREL DALRYMPLE, ROB VOLLMAR TO SIGN IN OKLAHOMA CITY - MAY 3

Oklahoma author Rob Vollmar will sign copies of his graphic novel, The Castaways, on Saturday, May 3rd from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Atomik Pop, 918 W. Main in Norman, and from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at 7884 S. Western in Oklahoma City.

Vollmar, 31, graduated from the University of Science of Arts of Oklahoma with a BA in English in 1995. The Castaways, drawn by Spanish artist Pablo Callejo, was published by Absence of Ink Press in 2002 and has been nominated for an Eisner Award.

The Castaways follows the adventures of Tucker Freeman, a young boy who hops a train to escape the crippling poverty of his rural home during the Great Depression. Armed with only fifteen cents and the memory of his missing father, must find his place in the world before the realities of being young, poor, and homeless consume him.

Comic book writer and artist Farel Dalrymple will be signing copies of his comic book, Pop Gun War, on Saturday, May 3rd from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Atomik Pop, 918 W. Main in Norman, and from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at 7884 S. Western in Oklahoma City.

Dalrymple graduated from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and published his first comic book, Smith's Adventures in the Supermundane, in 1999. The first issue of Pop Gun War was published with the finacial help of a grant from the Xeric Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Peter Laird, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in 2000.

Pop Gun War tells the story of a young boy who finds a pair of wings in a garbage can. Tying them to his back, he becomes the center of attention for an intriguing cast of characters that include an angry monk, a well-dressed midget, and a flying fish. The series was awarded a Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators in 2002, and will be collected in a trade paperback book by Dark Horse Comics this summer. Dalrymple's other works include the experimental comic anthology Meathaus, Dark Horse Comics' Happy Endings, and Grendel Red, White, and Black.
