ZAPP-o-Rama: Do It Yourself this month with ZAPP!
Ever wonder what goes on in the Hugo House basement? It’s buzzing with activity this month as Hugo House’s Zine Archives and Publishing Project (ZAPP) hosts a series of DIY workshops and a Halloween performance. Read on for highlights!
Do-It-Yourself Workshops:
• Wed Oct 22: “So You Want to Make a zine? Introduction to the kingdom of zinedom.” All you ever wanted to know about zines but were afraid to ask, from the ZAPP queen herself, Alissa Nielsen. 7:30-9:30 p.m. FREE; $5 suggested donation.
• Sat Oct 25: “Rock Write: How Zines Created Punk, and What the New ‘Punk’ Is.” In this do-it-yourself workshop, Chris Estey, a veteran zine publisher & musician, explores the dialogue between music and small-press publishing, from the early days of punk to today. 1-5 p.m. $50 / $40 Hugo House members. ZAPP Performance:
Thurs Oct 30: “THE SLIDE RULE: Halloween Special,” a set of ghost-and-monster-themed events featuring a cartooning workshop with Greg Stump at 5pm and a live cartoonist slide show performance at 7pm, hosted by cartoonist Davey Oil with readings by Smell of Steve, inc., Greg Stump, David Lasky, Stefan Gruber, Paul Constant & Hyla Tracy, Tatiana Gill, Scott Faulkner, Mark Campos, Davey Oil & Tyler Gilles and Frank Young. $5 covers the workshop & show!
