[event:comix] STRIPBURGER IN NORWAY

International Norwegian comic festival Raptus is the biggest of its kind in Scandinavia. This year’s festival, the eighth in a row, will be taking place in the town of Bergen from the 12th through the 14th of September. Stripburger will present its Stripburek - comics from the other Europe project, anthology of Eastern European comics. Beside the editors Katerina Mirovic and Ivan Mitrevski, the guest artists invited to the festival are Andreja Kladnik from Slovenia, Darko Macan form Croatia and Aleksandar Zograf and Vladan Nikolic, both from Serbia. Beside the exhibition of original artworks from Stripburek, the guests will also hold a few lectures. Katerina Mirovic will be giving a lecture on East European comic production with an emphasis on Slovenian comics. Andreja Kladnik, a senior of fine arts education at the University of Ljubljana will give her insight into making comics with collage technique. Darko Macan, comic artist, scriptwriter and publicist will present his personal experience as a professional comic artist and children’s books illustrator. “Dreams and Reality” is the title of Aleksandar Zograf’s lecture, where he will try to find a connection between dreams and the art of comics. All the artists will also be presented with individual interviews. A comic workshop will also be organised.

After Raptus, Stripburger is moving to Stavanger to participate at a book festival, Chapter03. A mini exhibition of works from artists present will be set up together with a series of interviews. “Comics, What Are They Good For” is the title of Darko Macan’s interview. The topic of Zograf’s interview is the relation between the “I” in his comics and the “I” of his real life. Talk with Andreja Kladnik will mostly revolve around the use of collage and its potentials in comic making and Ivan Mitrevski’s interview will be mostly about east European comics and their future in the globalised world. A short tour around neighbouring schools will be organised for artists to present their view on comics to Norwegian schoolchildren.
