[comix] CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: "GREAT SPECIAL LITTLE FRIEND"
The Kitchen – Comics Submissions Needed:
“Great Little Special Friend”
This year, NGO “VelikiMali” in co-operation with comic workshop “Kitchen” and Aleksandar Zograf announces a public invitation for comics on the topic “Great Little Special Friend”
Try to express something about:
• Your experience, understanding and feelings regarding children and people who have different development because of various disabilities and disorders
• Your views and knowledge about their everyday life (friendship, love, family, education, hobby, work, etc.)
• How you see obstacles and problems facing children and other people with disabilities in life (violating their human rights, discrimination, rejection, fear, pity?)
• What do you see as a positive way of overcoming these obstacles – how can every one of us (YOU) influence the development of accepting attitudes and improving the quality of personal and social life of people with these disabilities?
We sometimes feel our own limits and handicaps. Do they frighten us? Do we run away from them? Do we want to be successful and beautiful? It is absurd to do things just to prove ourselves, be successful, so that people like us… when what we really want is to be the way we are. We need a special friend.
Deadline for submitting your works is 30th September 2003
The selection of best works will be published in the sixth, “special” issue of
Kuhinja ("The Kitchen") comics anthology. The anthology will be presented at GRRR! (The second edition of the Pancevo International comics festival, to be held October 17-19, 2003.) Works not selected for this comic anthology will also be on display at the exhibition at the GRRR! Festival.
Please send your works (1 to 3 pages, in black and white or in color, and with brief CV) to: Sasa Rakezic c/o VelikiMali, P.F. 163, 26000 Pancevo, Serbia and Montenegro), or as a file attachment to:
velikimali@panet.co.yu. Works in color are recommended to be sent on a CD, JPG extension with no less then 300 dpi, CMYK.
This is part of the campaign “VelikiMali Special Friend” supported by Open Society Institute, Budapest
Since 1999, NGO «VelikiMali» Initiative for Professional Assistance to Children with Special Needs gathers young people who are persistent in changing the prevalent image of diversity as something strange, unfamiliar and rejected in order to promote positive and accepting social attitude towards children and adults with developmental disabilities.
