New York to host numerous comic book related events during week of MoCCA Art Festival
New York, New York, June 10, 2003: On Sunday, June 22, The nonprofit Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA) will bring together over 200 cartoonists, publishers, art dealers, art organizations, and other professionals to showcase a vast array of their work and products for their second annual Art Festival at the historic Puck Building in New York City. Open to the public, the MoCCA Art Festival will unveil a wide range of comic and cartoon art from original artwork to limited edition prints, posters, three-dimensional art, graphic novels, comics, cartoons and animation. Featured Guests will include Bill Plympton (
Mutant Aliens,
Hair High), Craig Thompson (
Goodbye, Chunky Rice), Howard Cruse (
Stuck Rubber Baby), James Kochalka (
Fantastic Butterflies,
Monkey vs. Robot), Jeff Smith (
Bone), Mike Mignola (
Hellboy), Patrick McDonnell (
Mutts), Peter Kuper ("SPY vs. SPY",
World War 3 Illustrated), and Phoebe Gloeckner (The Diary of a Teenage Girl), along with hundreds of other cartoonists from New York and around the world. This year’s Special Guest Honoree will be Art Spiegelman (
RAW,
Maus,
Little Lit). Many cartoonists and publishers alike will be teeming to debut new comic books and graphic novels at the MoCCA Art Festival.
The 2003 MoCCA Art Festival – which offers fans, professionals and the general public an ideal opportunity to view and purchase a wide range of works from independent, alternative, and up-and-coming comic and cartoon artists – will be held at the historic Puck Building (293 Lafayette Street at Houston) on Sunday, June 22, from 11:00am to 7:00pm. The event is open to the public. Suggested minimum donation is $5, with all proceeds going to support the nonprofit Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art.

The official MoCCA pre-Art Festival Party, co-sponsored by Funny Times, will be on Saturday June 21, the night before the Art Fest. Festivities will include performances by the one, the only –
James Kochalka Superstar who will be accompanied on guitar by Colin Clary, and the nerdtastic NYC band,
Collider.
