[comix] MORE CONVENTION-RELATED CONTROVERSY
[ If the Make-A-Wish/Pittsburgh Comicon story I posted on May 10th interested you, here's another bit about this past weekend's Motor City Comic Con in Detroit. The full article may be found

Detroit Free Press article:
The Muscular Dystrophy Association called off an auction, said Bob Mackle, MDA's director of public information.
"It was brought to our attention that some of the celebrity guests who were going to appear at the convention were either models for adult magazines or had appeared in adult movies," Mackle said, adding that the MDA didn't want to offend its donors or the families it serves.
Convention coordinator Gary Bishop said, "We have Playboy playmates. That's a part of pop culture. We are a pop-culture convention."
The models and volunteers police the area around their tables to keep children away, he said.
Some parents said those areas should have been more clearly marked. "It needs to be more obvious that this is where you don't take your kids," said Cecelia Julien of West Bloomfield, who was at the convention with her husband and son William, 9, a.k.a. Anakin Skywalker.
Bishop said it isn't just families with children that the Motor City Comic Con attracts. "The show is for the entire public," he said.
